About this site

Welcome to Radio & SQL, where systems, data, and signal intersect to help bring order to chaos. We explore technology, databases, radio communications, human systems, and current events to understand where things are headed - and how we can live smarter along the way.

We aim for high signal-noise-ratio, answering "why" and hopefully "how", while cutting through the noise of marketing and politics. Whether it's debugging, tracing, or examining the assumptions that drive our society and institutions, we bring curiosity, rigor, and just enough irreverence to challenge both "the way things are" and "the next big thing" (which might turn out to be a bad idea driven by heavy marketing).

Casey Benefield, NZ2O

Data Analyst and Database Administrator, Librarian of Hoarded and Indexed Information
"Every system, whether it's human process or technology, tells a story if you know how to listen."

Casey comes with warning labels: Dad, Nerd, Techie, Lover, Conservative Independent.... and has some rules.

Casey is a self-taught IT enthusiast and Database Administrator with a passion for uncovering the patterns behind complex, holistic systems. Expect Star Trek level expectations from Casey - he expects nothing less from our society.

By day, Casey keeps databases and apps running smoothly and identifies underlying problems before they are noticed. By night, he explores technology further in his home lab, while also engaging on the airwaves and the principles of communication that connect us all.

Casey believes that good governance comes from good analysis. Data analysis requires curiosity and skepticism, combined with an understanding of how trends impact policy decisions which ripple through society. He encourages systems thinking and a Constitution-first approach to life in America - no hero worship, no leader worship, only worship Jesus Christ. Everyone and everything else must be questioned.

Aligned with his experience as a Google Certified Data Analyst and years of BPO expertise, Casey's mission is to bring true insight to the masses and equip others with the skills do the same.

Dr. Samuel Croswell

Systems Engineer, Observer of Failure Modes
"Everything breaks, if you use it wrong enough."

Samuel Croswell is our resident "would ya just look at this?!" guy, a systems engineer and analyst with a passion for uncovering hidden failure points in technical, organizational, and social systems - both intentionally and unintentionally hidden. Methodical and precise, Samuel examines how assumptions, design choices, and operational constraints interact - and sometimes fail spectacularly.

Trained in engineering principles, commercial communication systems, and operational analysis, Samuel approaches every problem as a puzzle: trace signals, test limits, and reveal weaknesses that others overlooked.

His work encourages readers to question assumptions and what you've been taught, think critically, and see the ripple effects of decisions across complex systems. Samuel's style uses systems thinking, dry humor, and deliberate provocation to challenge readers to reconsider both "the way things are" and "the next big thing" before blindly following the hype or a public figure.

Samuel's favorite quote: "If this assumption fails, the system does to."

Samuel Croswell is your guide to understanding the mechanics behind machinery, be it tech or institution, to learn from past failures before it becomes a catastrophe.
